love this graphic for International Year of #Forests - Gambia
2011 is the year of the forest, so we here at Mbollou have decided to try and tackle one of the main environmental problems facing the Gambia at the moment in our own little way. Deforestation is a world wide problem that destroys vital habitats for many species of animals. In the Gambia the need for wood is very high, it is used in every aspect of life, from fire wood and timber for building houses to medicinal therapies and wood for the production of fishing boats. The rate at which the country’s forests are being torn down does not match the rate at which they are being re-grown, therefore, together with our Mbollou communities in both the Gambia and the UK, we plan on planting at least 1,000 trees in 2011, the year of the forest! Come and join us!
